Acupuncture

Treatment for the Future

Acupuncture, one of the oldest and most complex medicinal arts that exists, is a great alternative to traditional medicine. "Traditional Chinese medicine offers a comprehensive, integrated and well-tested theory: its application in acupuncture, which is inexpensive, non-invasive, safe and effective, is surely a key form of treatment for the future."

What is Acupuncture?

The ancient Chinese art of acupuncture is dated back at least four thousand years. Basically, acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles, on the body's surface, in order to influence function of the body.

Acupuncture is often used to relieve pain. It is based on the theory that there is energy flowing through your body, called chi. Chi flows through channels or energy pathways in the body called meridians. When the flow of chi is blocked or unbalanced at any point on a pathway, it may result in illness. Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners believe acupuncture unblocks and balances the flow of chi to restore health.

Western medicine practitioners theorize that acupuncture reduces pain through biological mechanisms involving changes in neurotransmitters, hormones, or secretions of endorphins and enkaphalins.

What is Acupuncture used for?

Acupuncture is used to relieve pain and treat certain health conditions. It may be used alone or as part of a treatment program. Results have been found for use of acupuncture in the treatment of conditions such as back or neck pains, arm or leg pains, and post surgery or chemotherapy pains. Acupuncture may also be useful for other conditions such as headache, menstrual cramps, fibromyalgia, muscle spasms, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, asthma, allergies, and much more.

Does Acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture causes very little pain due to the small gauge of the needles involved. Naturally some points are more tender than others. A painless alternative to needle acupuncture is acustimulation. Acustimulation  is simply acupuncture without needles. Stimulation   of the acupuncture points is performed with  an instrument delivering a microcurrent.

Is Acupuncture safe?

In, general acupuncture is a safe treatment when done by a certified acupuncturist. Today most needles are made of steel and are contained in individual sterile packages. The needles are disposed of after each use in accordance with medical biohazard regulations and guidelines.
